Cumulatively, based on data prepared by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), 3.33 million doses have been administered thus far.

So far, 2.21 million individuals have received their first dose of the vaccine while 1.12 million individuals have been fully inoculated with two vaccine doses.

Yesterday, National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Malaysia’s vaccination rate had surpassed Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Khairy, who is also the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, said the government had set a target of giving 150,000 vaccine shots per day by June before increasing them to 200,000 shots by July.

He said the target could be achieved through the establishment of more vaccination centres, including 1,000 private clinics nationwide as well as through the drive-through system.

Separately, Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases climbed to 8,209 yesterday, while 103 more deaths were recorded, the second straight day of triple-digit fatalities.

This brought total fatalities to 3,095, almost double the toll as of May 1. The virus has killed 1,575 individuals in the country over the past month.
