KUALA LUMPUR (June 2): Malaysia administered a total of 98,789 vaccine doses throughout the nation yesterday, according to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.

In a Twitter post today, the health minister said 74,484 individuals received their first dose yesterday, while another 24,305 received their second dose yesterday.

In total, Malaysia has administered 3.11 million doses to date, with two million having received at least their first dose, while 1.1 million have completed their vaccination with two doses.

Based on the latest data yesterday, the five areas with the highest number of people who had received their first dose of the vaccine were Kuala Lumpur (340,690), Selangor (285,214), Sarawak (194,936), Johor (186,858) and Perak (161,295).

Meanwhile, the highest number of people fully inoculated was recorded in Selangor (143,797), followed by Sarawak (111,176), Perak (105,014), Kuala Lumpur (99,538) and Johor (97,798).

Malaysia started its National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) on March 2. According to the PICK plan, the first phase from February to April involved 500,000 frontliners. The second phase, which is from April to August, involves 9.4 million senior citizens, those at risk and the disabled. Meanwhile, the third phase scheduled for May to February 2022 involves those aged 18 and above.

Yesterday, the country’s new Covid-19 cases jumped to 7,105 after two consecutive days of decline to the 6,000 range, pushing the number of active cases to a new high of 80,474.

Another 71 deaths were recorded by the Ministry of Health (MoH), raising the country’s total fatalities linked to the coronavirus to 2,867.
