KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 9): In the last 24 hours, Malaysia has discovered 9,180 Covid-19 infections, a new daily high for the country, surpassing the previous high of 9,020 instances reported on May 29.
The increase in new cases, up from 8,868 on Thursday (July 8), came as the Ministry of Health tightened public health measures in regions under the Enhanced Movement Control Order, including more stringent close contact detection and health screening for early detection of Covid-19 infections.
According to a tweet from Health Director-General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah, Selangor, which has a large portion of its districts under EMCO, has set a new record high of 4,400 daily cases, up from 4,152 on Thursday. This brings the total number of cases discovered in the state to 277,393. In Kuala Lumpur, where numerous localities are also under the EMCO, 1,271 new infections were recorded, marking the city’s fourth straight day with more than 1,000 new cases.

Negeri Sembilan (899), Kedah (417), Sarawak (406), Sabah (323), Johor (315), Perak (241), Melaka (222), Pahang (214), Kelantan (151), and Penang (151) are among the states that reported three-digit new illnesses (142).
There have been a total of 817,838 infections since the pandemic was first diagnosed in the country in February of last year.
