KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 1): Tunku Alizakri Alias, the former CEO of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), has been named as the new chairman of Malaysia Venture Capital Management Bhd (MAVCAP) as of today. MAVCAP’s board of directors and management issued a statement expressing their delight in Alizakri’s new position.
“We are sure that MAVCAP will continue to move forward under his direction, given his substantial experience, vast breadth of skills, and established track record of accomplishment,” they stated.
“As one of Malaysia’s top venture capital (VC) organizations, I am pleased to work closely with the board and management to continue to accelerate the growth of Malaysia’s VC sector,” Alizakri said.
Alizakri has over 20 years of senior management and board level experience in fields such as fund management, financial services, central banking, social security, healthcare, media and telecommunications, property development, plantations, and oil and gas, according to the statement.
He joined the EPF as deputy CEO (strategic) in 2014 and then became CEO from February 2018 to February 2021.
During his time there, he founded the world’s first and largest shariah-based private equity fund. According to the statement, he also launched iLestari, a digitally driven pension fund that he developed in-house during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition, he was instrumental in the conception and establishment of the Malaysia Social Protection Council, which is chaired by Malaysia’s Prime Minister.
The EPF also became the first Asian pension fund to set environmental, social, and governance (ESG) targets for its portfolio by 2030 under his leadership.
Tunku Alizakri held critical positions and capacities in leading Malaysian corporations before joining the EPF, including the Iclif Leadership and Governance Centre, Bank Negara Malaysia, DiGi Telecommunications, and Maybank.
He now serves on the boards of IHH Healthcare Bhd and Sime Darby Plantation Bhd, both of which are publicly traded corporations./nRead More
