KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 2): The Malaysia-Singapore Business Council (MSBC) has formed a Malaysia-Singapore private sector task team to aid in the rebuilding of the economy following the pandemic. The task group, led by MSBC co-chairs, would collate business inputs from both Malaysian and Singaporean enterprises for submission to the governments, according to a joint statement released today.
As the private sector conduit for Malaysian and Singaporean enterprises, the council said it recognizes the critical role it can play in providing private-sector feedback for the post-pandemic economic recovery.
Datuk Seri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani, chairman and senior partner of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, said Malaysia-Singapore business ties are important for the region, and the council is committed to assisting both governments in accelerating the two nations’ economic recovery.
“We hope that the MSBC will try and continue to work as a team to go farther together as a result of the collective input that we will obtain,” said YCH Group executive chairman Dr. Robert Yap.
The council also asked both countries’ governments to speed up cross-border travel initiatives to ease corporate travel arrangements between the two closely linked neighbors.
“Because the reopening of the Malaysia-Singapore border is critical for easing business mobility, the council applauds efforts by both the Malaysian and Singaporean governments to work toward recognising each other’s Covid-19 vaccine certificates in order to facilitate cross-border travel,” the council said./nRead More
