PETALING JAYA (May 24): Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate MTD Group announced the completion of its One Crown Place development in the EC2 district, London ahead of schedule.

Situated on the fringes of the financial district of City of London, the GBP518 million (about RM3.03 billion) mixed-use scheme was completed by Mace Group Ltd, the main contractor of One Crown Place.

In a press release, MTD group head of international real estate and properties and AMTD London Development Co Ltd director Tee Kim Siew said: “We are proud to announce the practical completion of this iconic mixed-use development in Central London. This is a major milestone for MTD Group and we would like to thank the Mace team as well as the One Crown Place project team for exceeding our expectations and delivering our vision for the landmark scheme to the highest standards ahead of schedule. With One Crown Place, we have brought a new vibrant destination to life, creating a new live-work hub in an enviable location that is not just Monday-Friday, nine-to-five. We look forward to introducing One Crown Place to the capital.”

Mace CEO (for construction) Gareth Lewis said: “Working alongside MTD Group whose leadership and vision were vital for the landmark scheme’s success, we strived for an innovative approach to deliver One Crown Place. Redefining the boundaries of construction delivery, our team used new digital tools and cutting-edge structural steel installation as part of our delivery strategy.”

According to MTD Group, One Crown Place is an amalgamation of the old and new of the City of London and Hackney. The development has glass towers combined with its original heritage buildings, with its striking modern architecture imagined by Kohn Pedersen Fox.

It comprises two prismatic towers with 246 private apartments, rising 28 and 33 storeys into the sky, with interiors by Bowler James Brindley. The development also offers 10,650 sq m of high-quality office space, with a dedicated office reception designed by Design Haus Liberty, and a variety of retail units, a boutique hotel and a members’ club that occupies a fully restored Georgian terrace on Sun Street.

Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates design principal John Bushell said: “One Crown Place is a testament to collaboration and the combined efforts of an incredibly strong team. MTD Group was totally committed to the vision of a mixed-use development that will become a new destination on the edge of the city.”

Construction began in April 2018. One Crown Place’s northernmost building topped out in Autumn of 2019, followed by the southernmost building in early 2020. The interior fit-out of the apartments and the hotel fit-out commenced in 2020 and 2021 respectively. CBRE was appointed by MTD Group in 2015 to act as the development manager and project manager to market the site’s 246 private apartments and 140,000 sq ft of commercial space.

CBRE executive director and head of development management (UK) Henry Robinson said: “Together with MTD Group, we are thrilled that One Crown Place has reached completion. MTD Group placed a huge amount of trust in their UK team, and this flowed through all elements of the project from designers to suppliers to build this new vibrant, premium destination in London.”
