KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 3): It is more equitable to implement the National Recovery Plan (NRP) in stages at the state level since it provides for a quicker transition for states that have significantly reduced the number of Covid-19 cases while also meeting the thresholds. Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the NRP, which had been in place since early June, had showed great results in states including Perlis, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang, and Terengganu, which had met the criteria to join Phase 2 on Monday (July 5).
Tengku Zafrul, who is also the NRP coordinating minister, said today at a joint press conference with Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, “We should reward those who are able to meet the thresholds and continue to motivate other states to achieve the targets set for their respective states.”
The introduction of state-level phases is an improvement to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s National Reform Plan, which he unveiled on June 15.
Tengku Zafrul said that one month after the current movement control order (MCO) was imposed, the five states saw a drop in daily cases per 100,000 population of between 6.1 percent and 12.2 percent, an increase in the capacity of their intensive care unit (ICU) wards with a return to a moderate level from a critical level, and vaccination rates of between 10% and 40% fo
“In light of this development, it has been advocated that the government provide each state with autonomy, incentives, and the goal of working together to break the Covid-19 chain, enhance immunization, and progress from Phase 1 to the succeeding phases,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul stated that, while increasing vaccination rates and healthcare capacity have made the infection rate more manageable, it remains at a concerning level, as the number of daily new cases has not dropped at the national level.”
According to the findings, the Klang Valley has accounted for between 40% and 50% of daily cases reported since April, while most other states have seen a decrease in cases since the start of Pha “”On June 1st, I will be 1.”
Since June 1, Kelantan and Terengganu have seen a drop of more than 80%. It demonstrates that phased movement control has had a beneficial effect.
“It is appropriate to evaluate the phase transition at the state level in this regard,” he noted, “particularly for states that have achieved a reduction in cases as well as having a solid public health system.”
