KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 5): According to National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the EU should not discriminate based on where AstraZeneca vaccines are manufactured because the same formula is utilized in all of the company’s sites.
Following allegations that the EU will only recognize AstraZeneca vaccines that have been approved by the European Medicines Agency, Khairy stated that he would have AstraZeneca inform the EU that all of their manufacturing locations follow good manufacturing procedures (GMP).
“There is no reason for the EU to discriminate between one AZ (AstraZeneca) facility and another,” he said today at a joint press briefing on PICK development with Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.
Khairy, who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, said he will also discuss the subject with the EU ambassador in Malaysia to learn more about the EU’s vaccine policy.
All countries, he said, should allow travelers who have been vaccinated with WHO-approved vaccines to enter.
