KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 9): From July 11 to 24, the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be implemented in two new areas, one in Kuala Lumpur and the other in Sabah, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. In Kuala Lumpur, the impacted area is Sri Rakyat Apartment in Bandar Bukit Jalil, whereas in Sabah, the affected area is Blocks 11 and 12, Lorong 4, Taman Nuri, Sandakan.
“The EMCO’s job is to limit resident movement and prevent Covid-19 from spreading to other areas,” he stated today in a statement on the National Recovery Plan (PPN) and EMCO.
Ismail Sabri, who is also the Defence Minister, said the EMCO in Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Kubur, which was supposed to end today, has been extended until July 15 since Covid-19 is still spreading among people and new instances have been reported in the area.
He also stated that the EMCO would be lifted on July 9 and 10 in several locations across Sabah, including the Taman Murni People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Sandakan, Tawau Prison and Taman Ehsan Prison Quarters, Kampung Pukat Tanjung Batu Laut and Kampung Baru Pasir Putih in Tawau, and Lorong 12, 15 and 16, Taman Fajar in Sandakan.
The EMCO in Kuala Lumpur’s Kampung Segambut Dalam will likewise stop at 11.59 p.m. tonight.
Meanwhile, he added that 56 establishments, including factories, retail outlets, construction sites, and workers’ hostels, were ordered to close yesterday for violating the government’s standard operating procedure (SOP).
“The Compliance Operations Task Force’s 20,311 workers conducted 83,031 inspections and’snap checks’ against Covid-19 across the country yesterday.”
He continued, “They included checks on 2,568 factories, 16,960 company premises, 900 construction sites, and 379 workers’ hostels.”
He added that 531 people were arrested for breaking the SOP, with 499 being compounded and 32 being remanded.
According to the Human Resource Ministry’s figures, a total of 700,504 foreign workers employed by 36,417 businesses were tested for Covid-19, with 10,399 being found positive, he added.
