PUTRAJAYA, 3 JULY: Planting padi in regions subject to the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) is permitted in order to avert a rice scarcity in the country. Farmers working in the padi fields, however, must follow the government’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent Covid-19 infection, according to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“The food supply system, particularly rice, will not be harmed as a result of this clearance. Padi planting sites under the control of the EMCO, such as Ijok in Kuala Selangor, can continue to operate normally “he stated
Ismail Sabri was addressing at a press conference alongside Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Minister in Charge of the National Recovery Plan.
Following a significant Covid-19 infection trend in the two states, the government announced the deployment of the EMCO in numerous sub-districts (mukim) and communities in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur for 14 days from today until July 16.
He also declared that legal firms will be allowed to function to help with documentation until the courts reopen on Monday.
“This is due to the fact that paperwork involves government departments such as the land office, banking institutions, and judicial proceedings, among others,” he explained.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, will announce the detailed SOPs soon, according to Ismail Sabri.
In response to popular outrage over mosque closures, Ismail Sabri stated that state administrations, not the National Security Council, determine the SOPs for reopening mosques (MKN).
“The Mosque SOPs encompass allowing assemblage as well as activities not supervised by MKN at the federal level because religious activities are under the jurisdiction of state governments,” he explained.
