KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 8): PAS, one of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ruling coalition’s component parties, has stated unequivocally that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should stay Prime Minister of Malaysia.
“PAS confirms its entire support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister, including the unwavering support of all 18 PAS members of Parliament (MP),” said PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in a statement released today.
This follows UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement late last night that the party’s Supreme Council had decided to withdraw the party’s support for the PN administration with immediate effect.
Ahmad Zahid also called for Muhyiddin to resign so that a temporary Prime Minister could be appointed who would focus on the people’s well-being, handle the Covid-19 outbreak, and speed up the immunization process.
Meanwhile, PAS voiced sadness for any activities that could jeopardize the country’s political stability, particularly given the government’s present struggle to address the country’s health and economic crises.
“PAS also calls on all people to band together in favor of the government’s efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in order to ensure the success of the National Recovery Plan,” Abdul Hadi added.
According to Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun’s remark earlier today, Muhyiddin is still the country’s Prime Minister by law, as there is no clear evidence that he has lost the confidence of a majority of Parliament members.
Idrus further emphasized that a majority of Dewan Rakyat members’ confidence should be determined by the MPs themselves, rather than by a statement from a political party or any political party leader.
