KUALA LUMPUR, 15 JULY: The head of a property cooperative board of directors was charged with 58 counts of money laundering totaling RM9.22 million at the Sessions Court here today. Datuk Mansor Musa, 58, a former Batu Maung assemblyman who served from 2004 to 2008, claimed trial on all allegations read to him before Judge Suzana Hussin.
All accusations are brought under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFA 2001) and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFA 2001). (AMLATFAPUAA 2001).
The suspect is accused of accepting payments from a developer’s director, Tan Sri, in exchange for appointing the developer’s company to a joint venture project on cooperative-owned land for development.
Mansor was also charged with 106 charges of money laundering totaling more than RM11 million in the Sessions Court in Penang earlier this week.
On conviction, the offences under AMLATFA carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison or a maximum fine of RM5 million, or both.
On conviction, the offences under AMLATFPUAA incur a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a punishment of at least five times the amount earned by money laundering, or RM5 million, whichever is higher.
The judge authorized the accused to be released on RM200,000 bail with one surety.
