Visa has appointed a new chairman and regional president for the Asia-Pacific region, while Carlyle Group has appointed a former president of Goldman Sachs as its chief executive officer.
Visa makes key appointments for APAC
US-based digital payments company Visa has appointed Chris Clark as chairman and Stephen Karpin as regional president for the Asia-Pacific region, per a release.
Clark was previously the regional president for Asia-Pacific, a post which will now be occupied by Karpin from April 1.
As the chairman, Clark will support regional and global initiatives, strategic engagements with government and industry stakeholders, and drive Visa’s market expansion strategy. He will also continue his role as a non-executive director of the Visa Europe Board.
Karpin will be responsible for the business operations, client management, and go-to-market plans for the region, based in Visa’s regional headquarters in Singapore.
Carlyle hires ex-Goldman Sachs president as CEO
Carlyle Group, a global investment firm, appointed Harvey Schwartz, former president of Goldman Sachs, as chief executive officer and a member of the board, according to a statement.
Schwartz will be responsible for setting and executing a strategy for the company’s diversification plan and to identify new investment opportunities to grow the firm while driving sustained performance for fund investors.
With the experience of 35 years in the industry, Schwartz was the former president and co-chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs where he managed financial and risk management processes as well as its capital allocation strategy.
He also led Goldman Sachs’ securities and investment banking divisions, where he was instrumental in driving the growth of a number of the firm’s client franchises. He will take charge from February, replacing the interim CEO, Bill Conway.
