IPOH (30 June): Sultan Nazrin Shah, the Sultan of Perak, has agreed to the reconvening of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) for four days beginning August 25, according to Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad. The Perak king had also agreed to officiate the event on the first day of the session, according to Saarani.
“I met with the Sultan of Perak yesterday, along with State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and legal advisers.” The DUN sitting will be held physically, with all elected delegates in attendance, while department heads and observers would participate digitally, according to original plans.
“The DUN session can be viewed on social media, including Facebook and YouTube, as is customary,” he remarked today during a virtual press conference.
Several states, notably Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Pahang, and Terengganu, had previously announced their respective DUN sittings.
The state government will hold a meeting with the security forces, including the National Security Council (MKN), to seek advice on compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), including the number of representatives allowed to attend, the physical distancing rule, and seat positions, Saarani said, because the sitting will take place during the movement control under the National Recovery Plan.
“During this forthcoming DUN session, I hope that state assemblymen would offer their opinions and thoughts, particularly in respect to the collective endeavor to break the Covid-19 chain,” he continued.
Saarani said he will seek guidance from MKN and the Ministry of Health (MoH) on whether media practitioners will be allowed to cover the sitting.
Meanwhile, he said the Menteri Besar’s Office and the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) are collaborating to create movies on the fundamentals of Fardhu Ain (KAFA) for use as home-based teaching and learning materials.
Saarani said the effort, which is part of the Cikgu Saarani Tuition (TCS) program, will help KAFA teachers prepare teaching aids for KAFA Year One to Year Six pupils, and that 15 JAIPk officers and KAFA teachers are working on the interactive films, which will be shared on social media.
Previously, it was stated that approximately 200,000 kids from low-income households and the bottom 40% of the income distribution (B40) have benefited from the TCS initiative, which began on February 3 of this year. Continue reading
