Porsche Cars North America CEO Kjell Gruner told CNBC on Thursday that the company is seeing record sales and aims to capitalize on the success of its all-electric vehicles. “At the end of the day,” Gruner said on “Squawk Box,” “we are enjoying incredibly good demand with all of our vehicle lines.” “We’re pleased with demand for the Taycan, which accounts for about 15% of our total volume. The crucial thing is that the brand is well-known. The customer experience is something that people like. Yes, we do have a robust product portfolio.” According to Gruner, Porsche’s second-quarter earnings grew 55 percent year over year. Other electric-vehicle manufacturers, such as Tesla, are now vying for dominance in the EV market. Future investments in full electric cars, plug-in hybrid models, and internal combustion engines are among the three pillars of the company’s powertrain strategy, according to Gruner. Porsche claims that sales of the all-electric Taycan, which debuted in 2019, have already surpassed those of the company’s legendary 911 model. Current Porsche owners, consumers from competing brands such as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, and those wishing to add Porsche to their existing car collection, according to Gruner. “We want current Porsche owners to welcome the Taycan as a member of the family and to understand that this is a Porsche,” stated the CEO. “We took a clean sheet of paper and said, “We’re going to go electric,” and that’s how it was developed. And if we do something, we make sure it’s done correctly. We do it with all of our hearts and souls.” Former Porsche Cars North America CEO Klaus Zellmer earlier told CNBC that Tesla owners were the most interested in the Taycan among non-Porsche owners. SUVs continue to account for a significant portion of Porsche’s overall income. While Gruner claims that the luxury manufacturer always intends to sell one car fewer than the market expects, Porsche is having trouble delivering automobiles on time. “To make it possible, we’re putting in a lot of effort with production and procurement.
