KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): Healthcare provider Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care (RSDH) is acquiring Manipal Hospitals, Klang from Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd (MHEPL), which will see the rebranding of the 220-bed hospital, located within close proximity of residential areas.

“The acquisition allows us to leverage on a strategic opportunity to unlock more value operationally by expanding our reach to deliver RSDH’s distinctive brand of award-winning healthcare.

“Not only will Manipal Hospitals become part of the group’s network of well-known hospitals, it will be supported by Subang Jaya Medical Centre as the integrated hub for referrals in the Klang Valley,” RSDH group chief executive officer (CEO) Raymond Chong said in a statement today.

RSDH is equally owned by Sime Darby Bhd and Australia’s Ramsay Health Care. The company is buying the facility from MHEPL’s wholly-owned Singapore subsidiary, Manipal Health Enterprises International Pte Ltd.

The hospital is currently equipped with five operating theatres as well as 15 critical care units and intensive care unit beds. It also has a 1.5T (tesla) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, catheterisation laboratory, and 24-hour emergency service, among others.

Manipal Hospitals’ extensive tertiary medical care ranges from cardiology, nephrology, and neurosurgery to plastic surgery, psychiatry and dental. The seven-storey hospital building occupies a built-up area of 362,000 sq ft with more than 300 car park bays.

Sime Darby group CEO Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson said, “This acquisition by RSDH solidifies its position in the highly competitive healthcare sector and fits well with the growth story that we have envisaged for our joint-venture company.

“Sime Darby will continue to support RSDH’s pursuit of viable organic and inorganic growth prospects to leverage on the tremendous potential of this sector.”

With the acquisition, RSDH owns four hospitals in Malaysia. The hospitals under the group currently are Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Ara Damansara Medical Centre, and ParkCity Medical Centre.

All three medical centres are accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health and the Joint Commission International (JCI). RSDH also has three JCI-accredited hospitals in Indonesia and a Day Surgery Centre in Hong Kong.
