Stellar Lumens’ (XLM) testnet upgrade is set to be launched on September 20 according to the latest blog post.
XLM has reacted marginally to this news as it surged by just $0.19 percent in the last 24 hours.

Stellar Lumens’ (XLM) testnet is expected to come off tomorrow, September 20 at 1500 UTC. In a blog post, the team explained how developers and businesses building on the network can prepare for this groundbreaking upgrade.

Firstly, this is described as the most complex upgrade from year to date.

It’s by far the biggest, most complex protocol upgrade to date, and so while the basic instructions to prepare are the same as ever — install up-to-date versions of any Stellar-related software you use! — the process will take a few extra steps and play out a bit slower than usual.

The upgrade would see the candidate version of the Stellar Core and Horizon released. It is also likely that the upgrade vote date would be scheduled for 6 weeks by the mainnet validators. According to the report, the initial upgrade vote could be followed by several additional votes to adjust those settings. This is because the upgrade introduces new network settings that are within the controls of validators.

In general, we will keep this doc up to date as new information comes in, and as new releases come out. To stay informed, ask questions, make suggestions, or share intel, make sure to join them and check out the #protocol-20 channel, which is where the ecosystem is coordinating and sharing information about the upgrade.

More on the Stellar Lumen’s Testnet Upgrade

To prepare for the testnet upgrade, the team advises that users upgrade to the latest version of the SDK. It is important to know that this is very necessary for all users including those who do not involve Soroban-related functionality. The reason is to ensure that all Soroban-related operations are decoded. For those who run the Testnet infrastructure, it is advised that they install new versions of the Horizon and Stellar Core. It is equally important for testnet validators to be configured for the participation in consensus to be well-equipped for the upgrade with some stated codes.

We’re gathering a list of software that needs updating below. Currently, there isn’t much here, but we will add links to Protocol-20-related releases as soon as they come out. In general, please make sure to check release notes for specific instructions and requirements.

It is also worth noting that Soroban, Stellar Lumen’s smart contract platform was built last year for developers. The project was massively received as it recorded high engagement with several pioneers building on it. Soroban has incredible flexibility and scalability that ensures that secured decentralized applications are built and deployed on it. On top of that, the smart contract was designed with a high level of security and performance to ensure that developers comfortably explore a variety of use cases.

As this testnet upgrade approaches, investors have become bullish on the native asset (XLM), pushing the price to surge by 0.19 percent in the last 24 hours to trade at $0.118975. In the last seven days, the asset has fallen by 9.24 percent, and 10 percent in the last 30 days. Interestingly, XLM still has a positive gain in the last 90 days with an increase of 42 percent.
