TOKYO — Samsung Electronics will receive up to 20 billion yen ($140 million) in subsidies from the Japanese government to build a chip development facility near Tokyo, according to an industry ministry announcement on Thursday.

Total investment for Samsung’s new hub is expected to come to 40 billion yen, of which Japan’s Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry will subsidize up to half.
