SEPANG, PHILIPPINES (July 9): According to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the Selangor administration suggested to the National Security Council (MKN) yesterday that only key economic sectors be opened until the state’s Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) is withdrawn. He said the recommendations presented to the MKN include keeping the closure of specific economic and industrial sectors that had been set, till the EMCO is lifted, in light of the increasing daily cases of Covid-19 observed in Selangor.
From July 3 to 16, the EMCO in Selangor will involve 34 mukims from eight districts: Petaling, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Gombak, Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor, and Hulu Selangor.
According to him, discussions with MKN include permission for the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector to operate in EMCO areas beginning July 7, as approved by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), which considers E&E and its supply chains to be significant and critical sectors to operate.
“The reason for this is that Malaysia is the world’s largest E&E chain; if things get stalled here, the entire E&E chain suffers. As a result, we must also consider such factors “He made the remarks during a press conference today after touring Taman Murni, which has been under the EMCO’s control since June 30.
Apart from speeding the vaccination of its people, Amirudin said the implementation of the EMCO in Selangor was one of the severe measures adopted by the state government to limit the spread of Covid-19.
As a result of close contact detection measures and health screening, especially for those with symptoms, the daily number of Covid-19 cases in Selangor increased to 4,400 today, the seventh day of the EMCO, compared to 4,152 cases recorded yesterday.
After fulfilling the critical threshold value indicators defined by the government for transition between phases, Selangor is scheduled to proceed to Phase Two of the Movement Control under the National Recovery Plan (PPN) in August or September, he added.
He claimed that the vaccination rate in Selangor might reach 10% in a week, but that the number of cases in the state remains high, and that the health system is being harmed by the overuse of intensive care beds (ICUs).
Amirudin also watched the immunization of over 1,000 people in Taman Murni, which began today and will last for two days. Around 1,600 people live in the EMCO in the region./nRead More
