KUALA LUMPUR, 15 JULY: The stock of Sime Darby Plantation Bhd (SDP) fell 1.07 percent after two of its human rights commission experts quit.
The resignations were said to be due to a lack of transparency, which might be a setback in the company’s efforts to lift the US import restriction.
Andy Hall, a migrant rights campaigner, and Justine Nolan, a human rights lawyer who joined only six weeks ago, both resigned on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
SDP said it would not change its commitment to completing the review of the company’s labor standards and maintaining independent oversight in light of the resignations.
With 513,200 shares traded as of 10.25 a.m., the company’s share price declined four sen to RM3.70.
