Investors worry robust economic data could prompt the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates elevated
Stocks traded lower to start the month after new data on the U.S. manufacturing sector suggested a continued slowdown in factory activity.
The S&P 500 fell about 0.5% Wednesday. The technology-focused Nasdaq Composite also dropped 0.7%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1%. The three U.S. indexes had closed February with monthly losses of between 1.1% and 4.2%.
