KUALA LUMPUR, 11 JULY: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has asked all parties, particularly politicians, to put politics aside and focus instead on assisting individuals who have been harmed by the Covid-19 outbreak. With Covid-19 instances still on the rise, he said all stakeholders needed to band together and work together to combat the pandemic.
“Let us not play politics in this situation because the people are in desperate need of assistance, not just from the government but also from political parties, and we must assist them.”
“Right now, our focus must be on assisting people in need, while at the same time, strategies to combat the Covid-19 pandemic must be supported by all,” he told reporters after touring the Kerinchi People’s Housing Project (PPR), which was placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) today.
Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, was also present.
From July 3 to 16, the Kerinchi PPR is under the auspices of the EMCO.
According to Ismail Sabri, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) has donated more over 500,000 food baskets worth more than RM50 million to people affected by Covid-19 since January.
He said the government had set aside RM100 million for the Kasih Prihatin initiative, which would be distributed from this month until September and would involve a payment of RM100 per individual to roughly 300,000 persons.
“Although this is a cashless assistance program, users can go to any of the more than 300 retail partners and acquire things worth RM100 for free by simply showing their identity card.” He added, “This is in addition to food basket help.”
He stated that states, in addition to government help, Food aid and essential commodities were also delivered to individuals in need by Islamic religious councils and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
As a result, Ismail Sabri asked anyone in need of aid or who has run out of food to contact the JKM operations room in their respective districts, which is available 24 hours a day, as well as the MP service centers.
