Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) is developing completely autonomous vehicles. The company claims that every car it sells today comes equipped with the technology required for full self-driving; all that is needed now is for the software to catch up.
Tesla is offering a $10,000 “Full Self Driving” software package that lets the vehicles to make more advanced maneuvers on the road.
Tesla’s FSDBeta program has been made available to a small group of testers who have been sharing their ideas and experiences on social media. The software was recently updated to FSD Beta Version 9, which does away with radar in favor of the car’s eight exterior cameras.
The images on Tesla’s in-car display have been upgraded, and the new design has been well received. People, vehicles, trucks, bikes, and even dogs can be displayed on the car.
The experience has been described by testers as smoother and more assured, with the cars, which are still not fully autonomous, becoming better at making decisions in many circumstances.
Videos of the V9 upgrade in action may be found on YouTube. Dirty’s YouTube account has a video. Tesla shows the software navigating a dirt road in the dead of night and making a left turn successfully.
A drive from Santa Clarita to Northridge, California, is seen in another film by James Locke. The car is capable of handling the majority of the journey on its own, with the driver there to monitor the vehicle and remedy a few errors.
“Overall, FSD Beta v9 performed admirably. It wasn’t a faultless drive, but we were both blown away by the current FSD beta’s behavior and performance “In the video’s description, James wrote:
However, Tesla’s FSD Beta V9 isn’t for everyone. Around the 17-minute mark in the video, channel HyperChange shows the Tesla attempting to drive into a massive concrete pillar. However, the driver is doing his or her job and prevents the car from making the wrong maneuver.
Benzinga’s Opinion: Overall, Tesla’s FSD Beta Version 9 update appears to be impressing drivers, despite the fact that it is still not ready for widespread release. Elon Musk stated on Twitter that if this initial release goes well, a wider public release might begin in roughly a month.
