KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 9): In the last week, the Edge Covid-19 Pandemic Funds had provided RM2.8 million worth of equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to various hospitals. Ventilators and other ICU equipment including as beds and video laryngoscopes were donated to University Malaya Medical Centre for RM1.44 million. Similar equipment, as well as oxygen tanks, medical gloves, and face shields, were donated to Hospital Shah Alam for RM890,000.
The fund, which garnered over RM25 million in donations at the onset of the pandemic last year, also contributed RM466,088 to help equip Angkatan Tentera Malaysia’s Field ICU (ATM).
Last Wednesday, Lieutenant General Datuk Dr Zulkeffeli Mat Jusoh, director general of ATM health services, was on hand to accept the equipment from the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA).
MRA, one of the NGOs assisting The Edge in delivering equipment to hospitals, was also given RM28,000 in personal protective equipment (PPE) to use by its members in their relief efforts.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, the funds have supplied over 140 ventilators, 100 oxygen concentrators, and over RM2.14 million in personal protective equipment to over 30 hospitals, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, over 60 district clinics in Peninsular Malaysia, and many jails.
