KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (June 28): As of yesterday, 669,846 workers from 4,537 businesses in Malaysia had registered for the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunization Programme (PIKAS) (June 27). The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) announced in a statement today that the PIKAS Vaccination Administration Centre (PPV) under MITI, which is based at the Setia City Convention Centre, has started the vaccination procedure for manufacturing workers in Selangor.
According to the ministry, PIKAS, which was initiated as Phase 4 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), seeks to support the vaccination of about two million manufacturing workers by the end of the third quarter of this year (3Q21).
The PIKAS PPV, one of eight common PPVs visited countrywide by Senior Minister and MITI Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, will monitor the vaccination process and ensure that it runs well, according to the statement.

The government will distribute free vaccines under PIKAS, while the private sector will oversee the PPV’s administration, including hiring private medical practitioners.
“While businesses must cover the cost of vaccination administration for their employees, employers are not allowed to pass the expense on to employees through wage deductions, even if the employees no longer work for the company after the first dose of vaccination,” according to MITI.
While PIKAS is ongoing, the ministry stated that the government is determined to ensuring that immunization for vulnerable groups under PICK remains a top priority.
Manufacturers interested in participating in PIKAS can learn more about the program via www.miti.gov.my, according to the statement. Continue reading
