Reuters/Carlo Allegri Universal Pictures, a division of Comcast, announced on Tuesday that new films will be released exclusively on the Peacock streaming service no later than four months following their theatrical release. Universal films are now available on AT&T’s HBO TV channel and HBO Max streaming service six months after they are released in theaters. According to a business statement, the new deal will begin in 2022 and will feature “Jurassic World: Dominion” as well as new entries in the cartoon “Minions” and “Puss in Boots” franchises. To compete with Netflix, Walt Disney, and others for home viewers, media corporations are adding movies and TV series to their streaming platforms. The arrangement between Universal and Peacock covers the “Pay-One” window, which is when movies that have already been released in cinemas are available on streaming services or cable channels. Typically, this phase lasts 18 months. Universal and Peacock came to an agreement to divide the display into three sections. For the first and last four months of the 18-month term, new movies will be shown at Peacock. Universal will make the films available to other distributors during the 10-month period in the middle. “By showing content across multiple platforms within the Pay-One window, (Universal) titles will constantly refresh across the streaming ecosystem, ensuring neither title or platform is oversaturated,” according to a statement from the firm. Universal Pictures will also start producing original pictures for Peacock, according to the studio./nRead More
