Meat imports in June were also down 5.8% from May’s 789,000 tonnes. Meat imports in the first half of 2020, on the other hand, were 5.08 million tonnes, up from 4.75 million tonnes in the same period previous year, according to data from China’s General Administration of Customs. Domestic pig prices PORK-CN-TOT-D have dropped by half since the beginning of the year, pushed down by big import volumes and as production grew in response to efforts to restock and expand farms following the abolition of African swine fever herds.
