GEORGE TOWN, BRITISH COLUMBIA (July 9): According to US Ambassador to Malaysia Brian McFeeters, the Federal government could consider holding quarterly conversation meetings for firms and industry associations to inform them about the new laws and allow them to comment and provide input.
According to him, criticism from business organisations such as the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) highlighted the need for a better consultative structure to speed the regulatory implementation process.
“Companies and business associations were unaware of the regulations’ impending arrival and had no opportunity to consult on them before they were implemented. Furthermore, the regulations’ execution can be perplexing “After a virtual meeting with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, he remarked in a virtual press conference.
He said that the problem existed even before Malaysia was afflicted by the Covid-19 outbreak.
In this regard, McFeeters noted that hosting quarterly dialogue sessions for firms and business groups will eliminate surprises for the companies and help them to better foresee what to expect.
