Staff of Reuters Read for 1 minute Reuters, 1 July – On Thursday, the S&P 500 index opened the second half of the year at new highs after data revealed fewer-than-expected weekly jobless claims, while Walgreens rose after raising its annual profit forecast. At the open, the S&P 500 jumped 3.2 points, or 0.08 percent, to a new high of 4,300.73. At the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 4.8 points, or 0.01 percent, to 34,507.32, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 10.3 points, or 0.07 percent, to 14,493.69.
