REUTERS/File Photo/Susan Walsh/Pool Reuters, WASHINGTON, July 6 – In light of an OECD agreement committing 131 countries to eliminate such taxes, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai instructed her Canadian counterpart on Tuesday to abandon a proposed digital services tax, according to Tai’s office. Before heading to Mexico to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement’s entry into force, Tai spoke with Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng. According to the USSTR, Tai “emphasized the significance of Canada fully meeting its home shopping commitments under the USMCA.” David Lawder contributed to this report.
