By 2026, the overall cost of owning an electric vehicle will be equal to that of a gasoline-powered vehicle. To support its goal, Stellantis stated it would develop at least five battery factories in Europe and the United States. It has already announced the construction of two plants in France and Germany, with the third to be built in Termoli, Italy. The world’s fourth-largest automaker, which was founded in January by the combination of Fiat Chrysler and PSA, an Italian-American corporation, is preparing to compete with electric vehicle leader Tesla and other major automakers. With an electric vehicle plan, the Vauxhall UK facility is safe. All 14 of Stellantis’ vehicle brands, including Peugeot, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Opel, will begin selling entirely electric vehicles, according to the company. The company stated that it intended to keep the automobiles inexpensive and environmentally friendly. However, a spokesman for Stellantis declined to say what kind of pricing the company planned to charge for passenger automobiles. image IP3/Vincent Isore copyright By the end of 2021, it plans to electrify its commercial vehicle lineup and introduce hydrogen fuel-cell vans. “This change period is a fantastic opportunity to rewind the clock and begin anew,” Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stated. “The group is accelerating its electrification efforts.” The company claims that its electric cars will be built on four platforms, with driving ranges ranging from 500 to 800 kilometers (300 to 500 miles) on a single charge and fast-charging speeds of 32 kilometers (20 miles) per minute. The company revealed plans to construct electric vans at its Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, plant this week. More than 1,000 factory jobs will be saved as a result of the £100 million investment, of which the UK government will pay roughly £30 million. After Stellantis canceled plans to produce its new Astra model there, the plant’s future was in doubt. Stellantis is currently constructing two battery installations in France and Germany, and has announced plans to develop a third in Termoli, Italy. The two “gigafactories” in Douvrin, France, and Kaiserslautern, Germany, will get €1.3 billion (£1.1 billion) in funding from the French and German governments. Stellantis plans to develop at least two more such factories, one of which will most likely be in the United States, according to a spokesman. He went on to say that the business planned to develop the battery plants at its major production centers and that no gigafactories will be built in the UK at this time.
