KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 2): According to his lawyer, Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, oral arguments for former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s criminal breach of trust (CBT), corruption, and money laundering trial will resume on August 5, 2021.
According to Hisyam, High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah set the dates for the prosecution and defense to give their oral arguments on August 5, 6, 9, 11, 13, and 24.
According to Hisyam, once the submissions are finished, Justice Sequerah will announce the date on which he would decide whether Zahid will have to present his defense against the CBT, corruption, and money laundering offenses.
According to Hisyam, the revised dates were selected because to Malaysia’s Covid-19-driven movement limitations to curb the pandemic. Justice Sequerah had originally set June 28, 29, and 30 as well as July 1 and 2 (today) for the trial’s oral submissions.
If the prosecution succeeds in establishing a prima facie case against Zahid, who is also the president of Umno, he would be asked to offer his defense, according to Hisyam.
The Latin phrase prima facie refers to a scenario in which there is sufficient evidence to continue with a trial.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran.
Zahid is accused of stealing millions of ringgit from his charity, the Akalbudi Foundation, and is facing 47 accusations.
Yayasan Akalbudi is another name for the Akalbudi Foundation.
The 47 allegations include 27 counts of money laundering, eight counts of corruption, and 12 counts of CBT./nRead More
