KUCHING (June 14): Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) presented three crucial factors that involved the importance of achieving herd immunity, a strong government and economic exit plan in the fight against Covid-19 during its component party presidents’ audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today.

In a joint statement issued after the audience via videoconferencing and led by GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg here, the state’s ruling coalition said the vaccination programme in Sarawak will be accelerated and completed by August in order to achieve herd immunity.

“The presence of a strong and stable government [is required] to ensure Covid-19 programme and economy implementation is well grounded and [followed by] the implementation of a post-Covid-19 economic exit plan,” the statement said.

The statement was signed by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who also stated their agreement with Abang Johari, who is the state’s chief minister, for highlighting the crucial factors to His Majesty.

“We fully agree on the three factors in the fight against Covid-19 and the conduct of the economy presented to Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the session,” they added.
